Deep South at South William

After a very successful launch party in the South William Basement this week, Dig Deep are proud to announce that we are going weekly. Thursdays are back, its house music all the way and a very big thank you to everyone who came down to help us rock it. Catch Dig Deep residents plus regular guests from 10pm-2:30am every Thursday night with a little live percussion and sampler action to spice things up.

We have been getting our house in order over here in Dig Deep HQ over the past while. From putting on very successful nights in the uber cool Bia Bar, to keeping an established residency in The Morgan Hotel Bar going strong. Its a miracle we found the time to get new venues going, that said, we dug a little deeper and have two new nights just around the corner. Dig Deep are going live in South William Bar from next Thursday for a monthly event which we think is gonna be great. Also starting in the next few weeks is a another new night in Solas Bar on Wexford St. More news to come on that very soon.

Deep South at South William: Thursday 29th 10-2:30am Free In

Dig Deep are taking over the basement room in The South William Bar this coming Thursday to create something very special. The basement has a really cool underground club vibe and we are itching to get in there and see what we can do with that space. We want to bring a live experience to this event, so you can expect to catch Dig Deep Residents as well as guests on rotation playing alongside live percussion. Throw into the mix a bag of samples and loops from ableton and a roland sampler and we’ll all be diggin deep. For this event we are brining in decor and lighting that will help us create our own special atmosphere. All of our bar nights are free in and so we don’t wanna rock the boat, Deep South at South William is free in and hopefully a good place to catch some house music on a Thursday night in Dublin. Special PLAYFM Event This Saturday

PLAYFM has been growing in popularity for some time now here in Ireland and worldwide with its online service as well, hosting some of the best quality music shows from Dublin DJ’s. Mark Finn and Conor Smith (DIG DEEP) host a Sunday show from 4-6pmGMT and are proud to be a part of the radios team.

This Saturday April 17th 2010 PLAYFM is hosting a very special night in Think Tank (23-24 Eustace Street, Temple Bar) boasting 9 DJ’s from the station, playing the very best in underground house music. There are two rooms lined up for the event. This event is gonna be special so if you are planning a night out this Saturday, this is the place to be.

Dig Deep movements Saturday April 3rd

We have another busy Saturday ahead of us tonight. First off we are hosting our usual Saturday night in the Morgan Hotel Bar, Fleet St. Temple bar. Conor Smith and special guest Tony O’Leary will be manning the controls from 9pm till 2:30am. As always its free in and expect the very best in house music from the Dig Deep crew. Tony O’Leary is joining us off the back of an amazing gig in the pod two Saturdays ago when he guested with Dave De Velera. Tony has played with Dig Deep on many occasions and keeps bringing his a game so check that out if your around the city.

Second we will be in Bia Bar on Lower Stephens St. for our very successful monthly residency which is growing in popularity each time we play. For this months installment we have Steve Kirwan, Conor Smith who will be running between gigs and Steve Kinsey. This month we welcome a special guest Rory Lester who is planning to knock everyones socks off with a super deep set.

Percussion comes courtesy of Mark Finn who will be playing timbales, congas and bongos to accompany the music. So join us tonight and as usual all our events are FREE IN.

Gigs this weekend

This Saturday we are back to Bia Bar for our monthly residency which has been developing into a hot new night on the Dublin bar scene. As usual, we will be there from 9:30 – 2:30 laying down the freshest deep house grooves with lots of drum beating to accompany the music. All decor and lighting is brought in by Dig Deep. People who have attended past gigs have given great feedback and come back for more each time so if you can make it over, don’t forget its FREE IN and the Bia Bar is right up there as one of the coolest bars in Dublin. Check out the pics and vids section on this site for a look at past Bia Bar gigs.

DJ’s on the night are Conor Smith, Steve Kirwan and Steve Kinsey from Dig Deep. Mark Finn will be on percussion duties on the night adding something extra to the dj sets. Conor and Mark will be in control of music down at the Morgan on Saturday as well (a little swap around operation will be required but its all in the name of good music and great nights).

It’s time for the next Dig Deep guest mix. This one comes from DJ Rory Lester who has been a staple on the music scene around Dublin for many years now. Music has been Rory’s passion for as long as he can remember, and this mix he laid down for Dig Deep will give you a good idea of where he is coming from. His musical journey has taken many twists and turns over the years but Rory has dived into a mix of tech house with deeper sounding grooves recently, his track selection in this mix is choice and won’t disappoint.

We first heard Rory play in Andrews Lane Theatre (Dublin) with Zane Smith who co-presents The Beat Generation which goes out playfmdublin.com. Moodymann – An introduction…

An outspoken voice in the normally non-confrontational world of electronic dance music, Moodymann is committed to keeping a distinctly black imprint on techno and house.

Moodymann worked at several Detroit record stores in the mid-nineties including a store owned by producer Blake Baxter. During the mid-nineties Kenny was also the resident DJ at the Detroit based Outcast Motorcycle Club. At that time he was known as “House”. After his first several releases on Planet E Records Kenny became quite popular in France and from there his popularity grew.

Moodymann sound is a hybrid form of techno/house dance music arrived at via innovative use of reworked riffs, samples and grooves. While he may frustrate people with his refusal to be interviewed and insistence on reminding people of the genre’s origins, the soulfulness of his output is unquestioned. Utilizing classic soul and jazz samples, low-slung bass lines and an approach to drum programming that is diametrically opposed to the tendency to push the tempo faster and faster, he has achieved classic status thanks to gems like “Sunday Morning”, “Shades of Jae”, and his remix of Innerzone Orchestra’s “People Make the World Go Round”. Following years of 12″ only releases, he compiled his best work on “Silentintroduction”, one of the most celebrated albums of the late 90s.

Dig Deep HQ has been buzzing this week with new ideas for 2010. One of them is to invite dj’s to host mixes here on our website for you mix download nuts.

The first guest mix is from Tony O’Leary, who is a regular guest at Dig Deep events. Tony has always played grooving deep house sets for us in the morgan bar and also hosts a regular radio show called LAZE RADIO on playfmdublin.com, where you can hear a mash up of electronica, nu-jazz, deep house, indie dance/ nu disco, techno, minimal, tech and soul. It goes out on Sundays from 6-9pmGMT… CHECK IT OUT
